Tips Memilih Pot

Pot yang baik adalah pot yang mempunyai drainase yang baik, sehingga jika media tanam kelebihan air maka air dapat dengan mudahnya keluar dari pot. Ukuran pot pun harus diperhatikan agar akar tanaman tidak terganggu pertumbuhannya. Hindari penggunaan pot yang sempit karena akan menghambat penyerapan air dan unsure hara.

Idealnya, pot yang tinggi lebih baik dari pada jenis pot yang lebar. Hal ini disebabkan oleh pot yang tinggi akan mempunyai kandungan oksigen yang lebih banyak dan baik bagi pertumbuhan tanaman.

Selain itu, proporsional antara tinggi tanaman dan diameter pot juga penting diperhatikan. Rekomendasi yang disarankan adalah 3 : 1, yaitu jika tinggi tanaman 30 cm maka gunakan pot yang berdiameter minimal 10 cm.

Dalam peletakannya, usahakan ada ruangan diantara permukaan tanah dan dasar pot. Jika pot langsung diletakkan di permukaan tanah, air yang keluar dari pot akan menumpuk di bawah pot dan akan memacu tumbuhnya cendawan yang akan merugikan tanaman. Batu kerikil dapat digunakan sebagai alas jika ingin meletakkan langsung ke permukaan tanah.
